Nissan has announced that the highly-anticipated electric SUV, the Ariya, will be arriving in New Zealand in the near future. The first trial units have already landed in the country for dealership evaluations and on-road testing. Customers in Wellington can now see the Ariya up close and personal at the local Gazley Nissan dealership. Test drives are being booked between now and October 9th.

While Nissan New Zealand has not yet confirmed the official launch of the Ariya, a spokesperson has stated that it is expected to be added to the local lineup. Pricing and specifications have yet to be announced. A representative from Gazley Nissan has revealed that the Ariya could make its formal arrival as early as the fourth quarter of this year. However, the dealership is currently only accepting registrations of interest and not taking hard orders or disclosing prices.

The Nissan Ariya is offered in multiple performance levels overseas, including a top-tier AWD e-4orce Performance version with an 87kWh battery and dual motors producing 290kW/600Nm. It has a 0-100kmh sprint time of 5.1 seconds. There is also a two-wheel drive version with 160kW/300Nm and a smaller 63kWh battery option. Nissan claims that the 87kWh 2WD Ariya can drive for up to 610km, while the AWD Performance version offers a range of around 400km. The 2WD variants with the smaller battery have a range of 450km, with the AWD configuration offering 435km of range.

In terms of technology, the overseas Ariya models come with dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and integrated Amazon Alexa voice command capability. This allows owners to control various aspects of their home while driving, such as turning on the air-conditioning.
